Bram B. van der Meer

Mr. Bram B. van der Meer holds academic degrees in Criminology from the University of Pretoria, South-Africa and received a MSc. in Clinical-Forensic Psychology from Leiden University, the Netherlands. He received additional specialised education in offender profiling, threat assessment and forensic linguistics from law enforcement agencies around the world. He completed a post-doctoral education program in investigative psychology.

Mr. van der Meer started his career as a clinical psychologist in a forensic psychiatric hospital, specialising in risk assessment and management of severely dangerous patients requiring intensive security measures and psychological care. In 2002, Mr. van der Meer was appointed as an expert witness by the Netherlands Supreme Court. He joined the Netherlands National Police’s behavioural analysis department for more than a decade, providing specialist investigative advice, offender profiling services, statements analysis, suspect interrogation strategies and threat assessment. Mr. van der Meer specialised in the assessment and risk management of threats against public figures and members of the Royal family.

Mr. van der Meer is a guest lecturer at the Netherlands Police Academy and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. He serves on the editorial board of the American Psychological Association accredited Journal of Threat Assessment and Management. Mr. van der Meer is the former president and currently board member of the Swiss based Association of European Threat Assessment Professionals, a member of the Compliance Chamber of the Institute for Financial Crime based in The Hague, and an associate member of the International Criminal Investigative Analysis Fellowship. He is an internationally recognised threat assessment professional and is registered as such with the Association of European Threat Assessment Professionals.

Mr. Van der Meer started his career as a clinician in a forensic psychiatric hospital, specialising in psychological diagnostics and responsible for risk assessment for dangerous patients who required intensive security measures and psychological care. In 2002, Mr. Van der Meer was appointed as an expert witness by the Dutch supreme court, providing expert testimony and accountability assessments in criminal cases. He was employed by The Netherlands National Police’s behavioural analysis department for 11 years, advising specialist investigation teams operating both nationally and across borders. Throughout the years his investigative advice involved: psychological offender profiling in violent crime, compiling suspect interrogation strategies and conducting behavioural risk assessments of threats and domestic violence cases. Mr. Van der Meer specialised in the assessment and risk management of threats against public figures and the Royal Family.

Mr. Van der Meer is a guest lecturer at the Netherlands Police Academy and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. He publishes in academic journals, has provided a chapter in the International Handbook of Threat Assessment and currently is contributing to the second edition of this book. He serves on the editorial board of the American Psychological Association, an accredited Journal of Threat Assessment and Management.

Mr. Van der Meer is the former president and a board member of the Swiss based Association of European Threat Assessment Professionals, a member of the Compliance Chamber of the Institute for Financial Crime based in The Hague, The Netherlands, and an associate member of the International Criminal Investigative Analysis Fellowship.

Mr. Van der Meer is an internationally recognised threat assessment professional and is registered as such with the Association of European Threat Assessment Professionals.
